Vision
Promotion of Nematological Science and Solving Farmers’ Problems
Mission
- Development of Human resources for Nematology research, teaching and extension in the country.
- Basic research on nematodes- evolutionary genomics, developmental biology, life style, nematode-host plant interactions.
- Role of free-living nematodes in soil nutrient cycles to enhance nutrient availability in crops; their use as environmental quality indicators.
- Development of a state-of-the-art nematode diagnosis lab for diagnosis, survey, surveillance and forecasting of nematode pest problems in changing climate and intensive agriculture.
- Development of high-quality user-friendly atlas, web-based databases, and diagnostic kits and tools for easy identification of soil nematodes and symptoms of nematode diseases of crops.
- Discovery of new and environmentally safe molecules/secondary metabolites selectively toxic to plant-parasitic nematodes.
- Development of Nano-formulations of chemicals and novel delivery methods for application of molecules in standing crops.
- Novel nematode management methods by GM/non-GM approaches.
- Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN)- exploration of native strains, EPN-symbiont bacteria, bio efficacy, mass production and formulation.
- Research on bio-control agents of plant parasitic nematodes for their management in Organic Systems.
