Lab profile

The main focus of the laboratory is breeding of flower crops for various traits, biochemical and physiological analysis, molecular analysis, value addition and histological studies in flower crops.

The Research Work Being Carried Out

Breeding of flower crops for various traits

Research have been carried out on breeding of flower crops like roses, marigold, chrysanthemum, tuberose, gladiolus, bougainvillea for various economically important traits.

Biochemical and Physiological Analysis in flower crops:

The main focus of this laboratory is to carry out the biochemical and physiological analysis in economically important flower crops. This laboratory has the good facilities to undertake research work on to develop the protocol on abiotic stress management, post-harvest management of flower crops. Different techniques for screening of genotypes of flower crops for abiotic stresses like drought, high and low temperature, salt, etc. have been optimised.

Molecular Analysis in flower crops:

The other major research area of the laboratory is molecular characterization of flower crop germplasm. The PG students of the division have undertaken their research work on DNA fingerprinting and molecular analysis of different flower crops.

Value addition and Histological studies in horticultural crops

PG students of the division and other horticultural divisions have worked on histological studies in flower, fruits and vegetable crops using stereo zoom microscope. Pigment isolation and their histological studies have been carried out for the flower crops.
