The major research thrust of the station is to improve the productivity, profitability and suatainability of wheat cultivation in central India, covering under mentioned aspects:

  • To develop high yielding rust resistant wheat varieties for different cultivation conditions with special emphasis on durum or kathiya wheat
  • Development of limited irrigation wheat cultivation technology
  • To identify diverse sources of resistance to stem and leaf rusts in durum and bread wheats through multi-pathotype tests and genetic studies
  • To identify morpho-physiological traits for heat and drought tolerance in wheat
  • To coordinate and conduct the research programmes in Central Zone of the All India Coordinated Wheat & Barley Improvement Project
  • Breeder seed production of IARI-varieties of wheat, soybean, maize and papaya
  • To develop low-cost wheat cultivation technology for reducing the cost of cultivation toward sustainable wheat-soybean cropping system in Central India
  • To transfer appropriate wheat cultivation technology to farmers through Front Line Demonstrations, trainings, and print and electronic media
